That's all it tells us, unfortunately. I think there were about 400 boys in total, or slightly fewer. I'd have to go to the actuarial charts to say whether Christ's Hospital was knocking them off at a higher rate than the national mid-Victorian average, but he does seem awfully nonchalant about it.
