Steepholm's Dream Diary: 9

I am watching a film on television with my daughter. It's very much like My Fair Lady, except that there's no Henry Higgins in this version, and the cockney girl has transformed herself by dint of keen observation and formidable powers of imitation alone. At this point she is at her apogee, swanning it in high society to universal admiration. I turn to my daughter and remark: "What's the betting that in a couple of minutes one of her old neighbours will see her and say, 'Lor' luvvaduck, if it ain't our Eliza gone all 'oity toity, as ever was!'?"

The dream ends before I am able to prove my point, but I feel sure I'd have been vindicated.
