I'm glad you had such a lovely trip with great people. Shinjuku Park looks like a fairy-tale.

What would you say in the percentage of people who answered your Japanese in English? In Paris I've seen it as virtually unavoidable: at least 80% of the time, you get an English response -- though I have reason to believe my friends' French is quite good.
