Oddly, the place I've noticed most hostility to beards is among online transphobes, who frequently sneer at cis male allies for their facial hair, as if beards had not now achieved almost Victorian levels of ubiquity.
I'm old enough to remember beards still signifying something a bit counter-cultural, but it never quite made sense to me, as my true-blue Tory dad was also a committed beardy. Incidentally, the last political conversation I had with him was about Jeremy Corbyn. It was when his speech was very much affected by a brain tumour, and he declared: 'He's all right. I don't like him, but he's all right.'
