Protesting Too Much?

Every new thing I hear about what happened at the student protest the other day is making me angrier. Check out, for example, Laurie Penny's account of children kettled for hours by police.

Elsewhere, police horses were being used to charge into crowds exercising their legal right to peaceful protest (just over a minute into the vid)...

I don't recall any of this being shown on the news reports Wednesday night. Is this how it's going to be from now on?

Fair point.

This a war of the state against its own young people. That was a fucking cavalry charge. If they carry on like this they'll kill someone and it'll be like Peterloo.

What I think most interesting is the police leaving a ropy old van unattended in the hope it would get trashed, as apparently has been done at other protests, eg in Toronto. As someone once said, policemen is cunning barstids. I think this time it may have misfired because this photo may well turn out to be iconic.

I hope it does. (I like the way the Grauniad's URL has managed to spell 'defiance' as 'definance' - well, almost.)
