Considering how MacDonald managed to mutilate the message from "not all imperialisms are good, and the cultures enslaved may actually be worthwhile" to "empires may be evil, but the cultures enslaved are much more evil because they like to kill little kids slowly and painfully," this surprises me not at all.

But it does lessen my already minimal respect for him.
