Eating in the Library!

Today the University library was full of posters and fliers like this:

For a minute I couldn't decide whether this was a stroke of genius or just ridiculous, but I've come down firmly in favour of the former, with a small side-order of silly. (But who gets muffins, and who dried fruit?)

Uh-oh. Eating in the library is a very, very bad idea. The crumbs attract the kind of bugges that, when they've run out of crumbs, will start eating the book paper. Very, very bad idea. Did I say it was a bad idea?

But if they pay the bugs in muffins as a kind of danegeld, surely...

Okay, fair point. At least our library doesn't hold any priceless manuscripts, to the best of my knowledge.

I bet it will be a muffin market, with an option of fruit for gluten-free diets, until the muffins run out. Then fruit until that runs out too. Isn't that the fate of dried fruit generally?

Around regular library materials that are circulating and going home with people, I don't see how eating at one's study table is courting disaster. But I come from a land where coffee bars in libraries are no longer novelties.

Yes, except for mango.

The Librarian would probably not say no to to a portion of dried banana...........

The Librarian demands fresh banana as a right.

Oh doubtless, but I don't suppose he'd entirely turn his nose up at dried (he keeps dry ones between the pages of various volumes, after all! :o)

I thought it was banana skin he uses for bookmarks. Dried banana might crumble a bit inside the pages.

Books of magic though.

Hmmmmm..........

Because at any given time, most of the books are still on the shelf.

Because if the bugges are living in the books, patrons will not be happy about inadvertently checking them out and taking them home.
