I can't swear that they didn't say that, in truth. I'm not sure whether it would solve the problem, though since all parties concerned will say that their science is evidence-based. Well, except perhaps for a few who might point to Genesis 9.11 as the basis of their belief, but I hope they're a fairly small minority even within the 3%.
