It's April the First...
Apr. 1st, 2009 08:18 am... and I long to slip a few fast ones into today's Shakespeare lecture, and watch them come back at me in essays. Did you know that the real reason Shakespeare left Stratford was that he was sick of being known as Willy Wigglestick? Or that there really was a Patriarchal Society, run by Sir Thomas Walsingham, for which the annual subscription was fifteen shillings and a brace of pheasant? Or that the Privy Council was called that because, in the time of Edward II, it used to meet in a privy?
Alas, I feel the dead hand of regulation and customer satisfaction surveys clamp itself about my mouth, and I'll almost certainly be Good. Still - if anyone has any other ideas along those lines, I'd be fascinated to hear them. Maybe it'll give me the push I need to carry through my ghastly plan:
Now if thou would'st, when all have given him over,
From death to life thou might'st him yet recover!
