There are several types of plantain and at least one, baked (the one I baked on Sunday, in fact) is not unlike dense bread in texture. Now I need to try the last bit of it I have with butter.
When I was last in Sydney, I picked up some banksia pods (for a later project) that were from near the site of the First Fleet landing your ancestor was a part of. Their ancestors would have been the plants Daniel Southwell saw at the landing. If you wouldn't mind one, send me an address and I'll take care of it next time I do a post run. I can add pictures of the area from the ferry, if you like, since there are some real parallels with his description (I went back to your older post) and what Sydney looks like now, but they're not the bits that mostly get photographed.
