The cover of the 1970s Spyri printing I had as a child (in German) showed Heidi dressed in dirndl with short sleeves and bare knees. Very cheerful. I didn't think to question it till the time we visited my grandmother--who lived perhaps 80 km north of the schwäbische Alb--and were hailed upon in, I think, June. Unusual for there, but....
