Well, I never knew that until a minute ago - and if it's wrong, please don't tell me! But apparently the Anglo-Saxons call February Sol-monath, i.e. "cake month", because in that month cakes were offered to the gods. This puts the Germanicness of the A-Ss in quite a new light for me, and makes them seem somehow, I don't know, more Bavarian.

I wonder what's on the menu for March? How I'd like to think that Woden shared my fondness for profiteroles...

Considering that February seems to be one of the dankest (and I do mean 'dankest', not darkest) months of the year, this puts it in a whole new light! We must have more cake!
