I've been getting a lot of anonymous spam here recently, so somewhat reluctantly I'm introducing CAPTCHA on anonymous comments.

It's one of the Privacy options on Account settings. At least, it is on mine - I don't know if it's only available on paid accounts.

I found that did not help at all, and ended up having to ban anonymous comments altogether.

Having CAPTCHAs turned on hasn't helped me either. I'm increasingly tempted to ban anonymous comments, which would be a sad day in general, but a pragmatic one in actuality.
