Anyone Remember Livejournal or Dreamwidth?

Anyone else remember Livejournal/Dreamwidth? This post (not the first of its kind) reminded me of how things used to be, when people could blog and talk, and build a community, and find links to what they'd written years earlier - before we were all migrated to Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Whatsapp, Instagram, and so on - a kind of digital trail of tears in which each pasture was smaller and less fertile than the last. And so, here we stand at last, perched on the brink of every instant, toppling from event to event, buoyed by nothing but the latest hysteria, lacking all perspective.

If only LJ/DW still existed, I'd go back in an instant! But alas, such things are not and can never be again.

I've seen former LJers talk about their departures as if it were some sort of act of God. I say no, you decided to leave, and if you and those like you were to come back, it'd be as it was.

Some of us had to decide not to sign the new ToS given the threat it posed.

LJ can't be as it was because the new owners made it impossible. Maybe nothing you want to post is, or would be construed as, against Russian law; some of my content definitely would be illegal to post in Russia.

My being trans and wanting to post occasionally about that would have got me banned so I figured that if I want to help some desperate kid (and there've been a few) here was a better place to do it.
