I have one more face-matching query. Could this woman

annie butler

be a younger version of this one?

Annie Robina Butler

The older figure is another of my great great aunts, Annie Robina Butler (born 1841), author of such works as Glimpses of Maori Land and Little Kathleen, or Sunny Memories of a Child-Worker. The younger is labelled "Annie". At first glance they looked very different to me, but inspired by the comments I received last time I started comparing their mouths and chins, and began to think they had some rather similar parts, even if the overall effect was dissimilar. It's confusing!

I'd say so--same mouth, same arch of eyebrows and eyesockets.

I can't tell. I'd place them as related but not the same woman, but I can't get enough detail from the first photo to be sure.

The resolution isn't very high, but yes. Same mouth, same brow and chin, same eyes (especially her left).

My first thought was that Annie 2 looked more like Maria 1. And maybe even Annie 1 like Maria 2! But I've opened the Marias in an adjacent window now, and I'm less convinced. I don't see a terribly strong resemblance between any of the four.

You sound like me! I lurch from certainty to doubt and back every time I look at the things.

The two also might have the odd half-an-eyebrow thing going on on the left eye. But, don't think they're similar or dissimilar enough to say for sure.

I would say those two are definitely the same person.

btw, I'm the won who scored about as high as it was possible to score on that face-recognition meme that you posted a while back.

That's reassuring! If it's not the same woman, I'm darned if I can see who the younger person is, as there don't seem to be any other Annie Butlers in my family tree of the right kind of vintage.
