ETA: And more again from my friend Dru, this time on the question of - petrol bombs, what petrol bombs? It's beginning to look like the Banksy graffito was the only petrol bomb seen in Stoke's Croft that night.

Ooh, thanks for this. I have to say I was a bit taken aback by the petrol bombs, and am glad to hear this is just LIES from the POLICE.

I heard the police were tipped off about petrol bombs by one of the security firm from Newcastle, specialists in 'cleaning up' unruly districts, who'd been brought in ostensibly to protect Tesco... from protesters handing out food to non-Tesco shoppers.

There was a thread on metafilter about this story and I was struck how everybody simply assumes the story as reported in the media is distorted. Thanks for this link. I am disappointed the Guardian's headline was 'police injured in riot'.

I saw this earlier when I got yesterday's Independent on the plane today and the front page says "The Battle of Bristol." By this point I tend to assume the police are overreacting, overly aggressive and overly violent, and will never be held accountable. :p That 'Beat It' video makes me happy. Good luck to Stokes Croft!
