steepholmI woke this morning to the realisation that I had quite forgotten to put the end of the world on October 21st in my diary, and had consequently missed it. In the event, the Apocalypse took an even more subtly spiritual form than the Rapture had done, and seems to have passed without widespread notice. Maybe I can catch it on iPlayer?
On digging a little deeper, I find that would-be prophet Harold Camping suffered a stroke back in June, and was not saying much on October 22nd. Needless to say, some have speculated that the stroke was a punishment from God - because, of course, second-guessing God's loving motives for summoning tsunamis, striking down nonegenarians and flinging mountains about is a game that more than one can play. Personally I feel the deity would be better employed in compensating the many people who sold their homes and gave away their goods after listening to Camping's predictions - but, as the Archbishop of Canterbury would say, that's way above my pay grade.
