Sorry about the neck crick. I'm not sure why they came out sideways.

All Saints, Goodramgate, York

Clever postmodern photography at its best! Picture of [livejournal.com profile] lady_schrapnell taking a picture of All Saints Goodramgate, a tucked-away York church complete with 16-17thC box pews (not pictured).

Lady Anne Middleton

Lady Anne Middleton, whose eponymous hotel we graced.

Naves and Pewlessness

Pewless! York Minster nave in the nuddy, and doesn't it look better for it? The little boys were running around trying to stick to the lines of black marble on the floor, which turn out to show an exact plan of the Jerusalem subway system, circa 1100. Dan Brown, thou shouldst be living at this hour.

Ouse in Flood

Our romantic morning stroll along King's Staith suffered a small setback...

I can't find the setback (due to sideways neckbending which doesn't quite work, and my tiny terminal making the pix about the size of a postage stamp) but from what I can see these are lovely, and a magical city.

Sorry - it's just that the Ouse was in flood, so that the pub on the quay and the charming picnic tables outside it were more or less awash. It didn't rain while we were there, though!

Oh! I thought those tiny dots in the water were birds.

Rain would have made it soooo perfect. Er, that is, were I there. But aren't you supposed to have snow at this time ofyear, or is this global warming sinisterness?

Snow sometimes, but rain far, far more often. Snow was a relative rarity in York when I lived there twenty years ago. On the other hand, it was the melting snows on the upland moors that made the Ouse prone to flood back then, and this time rain alone seems to have been enough.

We had snow in Dublin yesterday! Along with sleet, hail (maybe just one or the other) and wild winds. Not pleasant, though I guess sort of seasonal.

Snow is supposed to be pretty and pleasant--you know, like on TV! (And the stuff we used to stencil in our windows at Christmas when I was a kid.)

Just in case anyone wonders but is too polite to ask, my little finger apparently has a finishing-school-trained life of its own, quite unrelated to the rest of me. I'm sure it's as posh to crook your pinkie while taking photos as it is to do so while drinking tea.
