Well, that's a relief. It seems that the proposals of Lord "Yes, Tony, feel free to invade Iraq" Goldsmith to get school-leavers swearing allegiance to the queen, amongst other Ruritanian measures (Union Jack epaulettes for school crossing patrols, oh my!), has been laughed to scorn, not just by me - see last post - but by pretty much everyone, even unto the Telegraph ("almost a Left-wing parody of how Right-wingers are meant to think").

Makes me proud to be British.

On the other hand, what would any law-abiding citizen have against swearing allegiance?

"I am not now, nor have I ever been..."

Interesting times, and all that.
