First, "Classical sculptures dressed as hipsters look contemporary and totally badass". The page title says it all, really.

Second, Robert McFarlane on the radio again, this time tramping the Icknield Way with Clare Balding. A much more satisfactory outing than the rather stilted set of programmes on Edward Thomas a few months ago, with MacFarlane sniffing trees and coining metaphors like a terrier with a doctorate. This being radio, you are at liberty to imagine that Balding has him on a lead.

The sculpture pictures gave me the biggest laugh-out-loud I've had in a while. Thanks very much for sharing, and I'm going to link.

Thanks for the link to Ramblings! I've enjoyed what I've read of MacFarlane, so I'll give this a listen later.

Marble hipsters are an improvement on the real thing; who would have guessed.

Funny how putting clothes on the sculptures makes them so much less distant. Suddenly I can see them as people. The shift in how I saw them came as a strange surprise.

Yeah, I felt the same way. Of course the Greeks painted theirs, so I wonder if this gives you something like that effect, mutatis mutandis.

I know what you mean. I suspect the surprise lies in the realization that one hadn't been seeing them as people before.

I think I saw them as people, but it might be since I took life drawing. Not sure if I always did.
