That is pretty cool. Thanks to the good offices of [personal profile] wellinghall, I can report that my grandfather published Tolkien!

That is to say, he was editor of The British Esperantist in May 1932, when Tolkien's letter on the language appeared there. It's not The Hobbit, perhaps, but that is not the Butler way. Shy, burrowing creatures, Butlers typically dwell at the periphery - but they're never entirely out of shot.

When you've traced all the waves and currents of your family, I do hope you're going to write them up. Watching it all unfold as you find things out presents a lovely study of certain sectors of British society over a rather interesting period.
