Last night I happened to be watching this with my daughter, then went to read my mail - maybe five minutes later - and saw the news about Robin Williams. (Of whom, by the way, my daughter hadn't heard.)
When I think of the number of entertainers of my parents' time of whom I was aware even if I'd never heard or seen them myself - like, say, Fred Allen - ande those who were still around in my childhood and whose work I'd seen - like, say, Jack Benny - and mind, this was still before VCRs - then I find it hard to attribute your daughter's never having heard of Robin Williams to simply the passage of time or of the generations.
I'm not attributing it to any particular cause, although she probably wouldn't have heard me talk about him. On reflection, I've seen only a few of his films myself.
