After an intensive statistical study of the children's books that publishers and booksellers choose to promote, I have finally come up with a sure-fire prize-winning historical fantasy title. So, watch the bookstalls for: The Gravedigger's Wife's Daughter's Apprentice: Being the Life and Misadventures of Mithras Spongedrake, Golem of this Parish. To be Sold at the Sign of the Gnaw'd Rope, by the Church of SS. Tibor of Prague and Mary the Absent. I see it being printed on handpressed paper and sold with uncut pages - perhaps with a matching paperknife glued to the back cover.

Now the only problem is, how am I going to spend that advance...?

I think you've omitted one essential ingredient of this concoction, in not making it more crystal clear that it is fantasy (I know 'Golem' should be a tip-off, but got to spell these things out!) - incorporating [livejournal.com profile] altariel's reminder it could become: The Gravedigger's Wife's Daughter's Apprentice: Being the First Part of the Life and Magickal Misadventures of Mithras Spongedrake, Golem of this Parish. To be Sold at the Sign of the Gnaw'd Rope, by the Church of SS. Tibor of Prague and Mary the Absent or perhaps The Gravedigger's Wife's Daughter's Sorcerous Apprentice: Being Part One of the Life and Misadventures of Mithras Spongedrake, Golem of this Parish. To be Sold at the Sign of the Gnaw'd Rope, by the Church of SS. Tibor of Prague and Mary the Absent. I think Gravedigger's Wife's Daughter's Sorcerer's Apprentice would be just a bit too much, though perhaps that's merely the result of inadequate research on my part?

I'd suggest some of that advance could well go to taking your admiring flist out for a nice meal - with signed copies of the book to follow, of course.
