mumoftheyear

Let me count the ways...

This was facing me as I stood mummishly in the line at Tesco today. No doubt Dad of the Year will be following shortly, open to all dads, and mums who fulfil a dad's role (i.e. smoking a pipe, watching Match of the Day, and being utterly ditzy when it comes to working a washing machine). Sigh...

I suppose the problem is that Primary Carer of the Year doesn't exactly trip off the tongue....

You should join [livejournal.com profile] queer_rage! Very useful for this kind of moment.

(Are all those mums white, too, or is that just the bleaching-out of the flash?)

Are all those mums white

Yes, they are - unlike a very high proportion of customers at the Eastville Tesco. I hadn't even noticed (to my shame).

following that link to the Tesco Magazine website, I see that they've given up on the tokenist 'dad fulfilling a mum's role' bit..

http://www.tesco.com/todayattesco/lifestyle_and_fashion/moty_is_your_mum_a_winner.shtml

...of course, the use of terms like 'mum' and 'dad' is a matter of endless hilarity in our household. At least we know what we mean...
