It's not been a great few days, obviously, but I wonder which of these will have the longest-lasting consequences?

a) Brexit.
b) Congress abdicating its role in the Constitution's system of checks and balances.
c) Jared Kushner's "peace plan," which looks about as peaceful as the Indian Removal Act.

A mere global epidemic doesn't make your top three?

Sorry, clearly this post wasn't gloomy enough already.

It's hard to predict between A and B, though sadly the best case scenario is that A has longer consequences -- because if B has longer consequences, the whole world is fucked. C is just nonsense that even Israelis are ignoring, and the coronavirus will be fine, because we still (for now at least) have a lot of interconnected well-off industrialized nations who have a century's practice at managing these things.

My mum told me this morning something I've been thinking for the last couple of days: "There are three countries where I can legally live. And those three countries..." 👆 at your A, B, and C above for the three of them.

Nobody's going to pay any attention to the "peace plan," so we can drop that one.
