Avant le Deluge
Dec. 12th, 2021 08:18 pmEven assuming that the WHO don't decide to skip a few on the grounds of realpolitik or euphony (can you really see them going ahead with the Pi Variant?), we have only 9 more variants before we reach the dreaded Omega, and the end of things. At the current rate, I expect it around the turn of 2024.
Meanwhile, some larger gatherings having been bancelled (a coinage of my own invention to indicate the moral/legal grey area where we all reside of late), I did go so far as to invite daughter, her boyfriend and Rei over to decorate my Christmas tree. Haruka, happily, was also visiting at the time, so we had a party of five to drink mulled wine and watch Muppet Christmas Carol, activities indulged in since the birth of Christ if not longer.

Haruka and I also watched the city of Bristol Brass Band play carols in Clifton Village in the morning, including an adorably inept trombonist who played many a duff note, and at one point dropped the sleeve (is that the word?) of the trombone entirely, with the quiet dignity of an elm tree crushing a passing horticulturalist.
It's a wonderful life.
