So, Harold Camping tells us the end of the world is still on for October 21st - and, indeed, that the Apocalypse began on cue at the weekend, but in a rather subtler form than expected, one that can't be detected with the human eye.

I'm not so sure about that last bit. Surely the signs are there to be read, even now? Does it not speak in Revelation Chapter 8 of the fall of a great star? At first, of course, I interpreted this as Ryan Giggs - but then I considered more deeply: "And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter."

Right on cue, the Danes have banned Marmite.

OMG! We are going to be eaten alive by a giant yeast infection? That's kind of what Marmite is.

That sounds very Quatermass, doesn't it?

I read somewhere once that a black hole could be so large and diffuse that you could fall into one without ever noticing. The undetectable Apocalypse sounds rather similar.

So long as it doesn't interfere with my radio reception, I'm fine with it.

No, the end of the world has nothing to do with Marmite; that is a heresy that will lead only to an eternity in a hell that you will either love or hate. The line about men dying because of consuming water containing wormwood is undoubtedly a reference to the French legalising absinthe. The Apocalypse is upon us!

I'm sure there'll soon be a thriving black gooey market in it.

Do they have no law in the US whereby someone can be arrested for spreading alarm and despondency?

No, nor for spreading Marmite neither. Not that it's easy to get.
