I'm sure it's coincidence, but three days after the actor who plays Marcus Belby in the next HP movie was stabbed to death, the following ad keeps flashing up over my gmail inbox:

Harry Potter Casting - www.britishauditions.com - We have audition places to fill urgently for film roles.

In other news, with a lot of help from my offspring, I finally managed to swim a width (or equivalent) today, just forty years after the rest of my class. I expect they've all changed and gone home by now.

Thank you! As an Aquarian I felt the shame especially keenly.

I love the icon!

It's a notorious quotation from a notorious (and, to be fair, unfilmed) script for Blake's 7. ([livejournal.com profile] gair and [livejournal.com profile] gerald know it well.)

Congrats on the swimming! (I'm guessing swimming a width is swimming across a pool rather than some arcane British custom of swimming the channel)

Thanks! Yes, that is indeed what a width is. As opposed to a length, which is going the other way. Are these terms not used in Australia?

Neither of us has heard of it in relation to swimming, and a quick google doesn't show it up, but now I think about it there must be some name for swimming across a pool! A mystery.

Oh no, that poor kid, and protecting his brother, too. Argh.
